Twinkle Twinkle little star, Baby Sara illustrates the Implantation process and the generic symptoms of a 2 Week pregnant woman.

Week 2 of Pregnancy is about the implantation process and blastocyst differentiation. Here we brief you about what exactly happens in the process and what are the symptoms to it.

What happens during second week of pregnancy?

- Getting ready to grow a baby
During the past few days, an increase in estrogen and progesterone prompts the lining of uterus to thicken and hence support a fertilized egg. At the same time, in the ovaries, eggs are ripening in fluid-filled sacs called follicles.
- An egg is released
Once a woman ovulates, an egg erupts from its follicle and is swept from the ovary into a fallopian tube. (Ovulation doesn't necessarily occur right in the middle of the cycle. For example, it could happen any time between days 9 and 21 for women with a 28-day cycle.)
- The journey of sperm
During the next 24 hours, that egg will be fertilized if one of the nearly 250 million sperm in an ejaculation manages to swim from the vagina through the cervix, up through the uterus into the fallopian tube and penetrate the egg. About 400 sperm survive the 10-hour journey to the egg, but it's usually only one that succeeds in burrowing through its outer membrane.
- The genes combine
During the next 10 to 30 hours, the sperm's nucleus merges with the egg's and they combine their genetic material. If the sperm carries a Y chromosome, the baby will be a boy. If an X chromosome, the baby will be a girl. The fertilized egg is called a zygote.
- Implantation
The egg takes three or four days to travel from the fallopian tube to the uterus, dividing into 100 or more identical cells along the way. Once it enters the uterus, it's called a blastocyst. A day or two later, it will begin burrowing into the lush lining of uterus, where it continues to grow and divide.

The common symptoms of a two week pregnant woman:

On a second week a woman may not even think of herself being pregnant, only an insignificant heavy feeling in the abdomen may be hinting on it. Most commonly, during the first weeks the woman has no clue she is pregnant.

But here are a few common symptoms that happen in the second week of pregnancy:

  1. Fatigue
Most pregnant women have increased fatigue. In general, it usually starts to affect your in the first trimester. Even you may already notice it in the 7-11 days after conception.Hormonal changes during pregnancy are one of the main reasons of why you’re likely to feel tired easily as your pregnancy progresses.
  2. Abdominal cramps
In early pregnancy, there are a lot of changes that occur for preparing the growth of the fetus. And it is also reasonable that abdominal cramps are common in this period. This symptom may occur when the embryo implants into the wall of your uterus, which usually occurs about 6 to 12 days after conception.
  3. Backache
It could be a consequence of the increased production of progesterone hormone. This may cause the decreased performance of your body to support your disks and ligaments. Other factors that may factor into your backache are lack of sleep at night.
  4. Nausea
This symptom is often associated with a familiar term called ‘morning sickness’. Sometimes it is also followed with vomiting. Nausea & vomiting can occur /strike anytime, but they are usually at worst in the morning. The exactly cause for this morning sickness is still not known! But again, increasing pregnancy hormones (such as hCH and progesterone) are thought to play a role.
  5. Changes of your breasts
Some women report that they experience tender /swollen breasts and sensitive /sore nipples in the early weeks of their pregnancy.
Changes of breast tissues and more blood flow are perfectly normal as you have increased pregnancy hormones. These changes are prepared for your baby after birth, i.e. for breast feeding and this may start soon after your conception.
  6. Increased vaginal discharge
There are also many women who experience increased vaginal discharge in their early pregnancy. Typically, the discharge is ‘slippery & wet’ or ‘creamy and white’ like lotion. You may notice it steadily throughout the day or it may appear in bunches.
  7. Vivid dreams
Vivid dreams are less common symptom of pregnancy, but there are also a few women who experience this symptom. Again, increased pregnancy hormones are probably to blame. Vivid dreams associated with pregnancy are usually followed with some common tags of pregnancy.
